Android notification settings

The xMatters Android app includes separate notification categories that you can customize for high, medium, and low priority alerts. For example, you may want to play different sounds for each priority of alert, allow high and medium priority alerts to override your device's do not disturb settings, or have your high priority alert notifications repeat if you don't respond to them right away. You'll need to enable push notifications for xMatters before you can customize your notification settings.

Use custom sounds for your alert notifications

If you want to use xMatters' high impact custom sounds (which are more easily heard in noisy environments) for your alerts, you'll need to install them on your device. If you don't install them, the app will use your device's default notification sound instead.

To install custom xMatters sounds:
  1. From the Notification Settings screen of the app, tap the check box to Install xMatters Sounds.
  2. On the Install xMatters Sounds pop-up, tap Install.
    • The xMatters sound files are installed to My Sounds on your device.
To set a custom sound for a notification category:
  1. From the Notification Settings screen of the app, tap the notification category you want to set the sound for (for example, High Priority Alerts).
  2. Under Advanced, tap Set Custom Sound.
  3. On the Set Custom Sound pop-up, tap Settings.
    1. You'll be redirected to the corresponding notification category screen in your device settings.
  4. Tap Advanced to show additional settings for this notification category.
  5. Tap Sound.
  6. Tap My Sounds.
  7. Select a sound from the list and tap Save.
To uninstall xMatters sounds:
  1. From the Notification Settings screen of the app, clear the Install xMatters Sounds check box.
  2. On the Uninstall xMatters Sounds pop-up, tap Uninstall.

When you uninstall custom sounds in the xMatters app, they will be removed from your device. If you are using one of these sounds for your xMatters alerts (or for another app), you'll need to select a new sound or the alerts will be silent.

Override system volume preferences for high priority alerts

You have the option to configure high priority alert notifications to override your system volume preferences. This is useful, for example, if you want your xMatters notifications to play a sound even when your device is muted, or to play a loud sound when your device volume is set to low.

To enable high priority alerts to override system volume preferences:
  1. From the Notification Settings screen of the app, tap the High Priority Alerts notification category.
  2. Tap Enable System Volume Override.
    • If this is your first time enabling this setting, you may be prompted to allow Do Not Disturb access to the xMatters app.
  3. Use the volume slider to set the desired volume for your high priority notifications.

Repeat notifications

This setting allows you to repeat notifications sent to your mobile app up to ten times, at an interval of every one to ten minutes. You can configure these settings separately for high, medium, and low priority alerts.

Repeat notifications do not stop regular group escalations. Depending on the number and length of the repeat alerts settings, group escalations may occur before a message finishes its repetition cycle.

To enable repeat notifications for a notification category:
  1. From the Notification Settings screen of the app, tap the notification category you want to repeat notifications for (for example, High Priority Alerts).
  2. Tap Repeat Notifications.
  3. Tap the toggle to enable repeat notifications.
  4. Tap Repeat to set the number of times the notification will repeat after the original alert occurs (one, two, three, five, or ten times).
  5. Tap Interval to set the time between repetitions of the notification (one, two, three, five, or ten minutes).
