Configure a fax provider

The following sections explain how to configure xMatters to send faxes via HTTP using Phaxio, an online fax service provider.

Fax notifications are one-way only; you can send faxes to Users, but xMatters cannot accept fax responses. To respond to a fax notification, Users must call in to retrieve their notifications or log in to the web user interface.

Note that the instructions in this section assume that you are using a default installation of xMatters; if you have customized your installation, you may need to adjust the described process accordingly.

You can configure the HTTP protocol to connect to Phaxio and send notifications to users via fax messages.

Get started

The first step in preparing your deployment for fax is to log in to Phaxio at www.phaxio.com, and set up an account. The configuration settings in the xMatters web user interface will require your account information.

Once you have your account information, perform the following steps to configure the xMatters SMS feature on your deployment:

1. Create an HTTP-Client Device Engine to use with the fax protocol.
2. Configure the Fax Protocol Provider to connect to the Phaxio service.
3. Create a new fax User Service Provider.
4. Add a User and a fax Device.
